I hope everyone is having a good day! My grandson's parents and sister arrived last night for the weekend and later, my mother, brother and his children will be coming over for a BBQ.
But it's not starting off that great of a day. My husband, who works at one of the many chemical plants in the area) was called into work last night about midnight. And I seem to have caught his cold from last weekend. But, we'll have a good day with family and some good food.
I'll be posting a few recipes that would make good summer dishes. Here's the first:
BROCCOLI SLAW
Dressing:
1 cup of mayonnaise
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons vinegar
Mix in a serving bowl:
1 crown of broccoli, chopped
1 med onion, chopped
1 pound of bacon
Prepare the dressing at least an hour before serving salad, but don't pour on salad until ready to serve.

Gosh, Anna, I hope your day is starting to get better. We'll be spending this holiday pretty much at home. We will go to the park now and then to see what's happening in our small town and to watch the fireworks this evening. Most of the day will be to relax as hubby worked 6 to 6 yesterday and will work the same hours Saturday and Sunday.
Good news, though! We were able to go out for a very nice dinner last night to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary.
Luann, congrats on the anniversary. Sounds like a nice relaxing day.
This year, I finally contacted the local Boy Scout troop and for $35 a year, they'll come put an American Flag in your yard six times a year. I just contacted them a few weeks ago, so today's the first day they did it for us. They 'plant' it around dawn and will come take it down at sunset.
At the moment, the kids and grandkids are at the store, so, I'm enjoying some peace and quiet.
I have the potatoes on the stove cooking for potato salad, I'll make baked beans and cole slaw and do a new recipe for corn casserole.

Happy July Fourth! I hope you cold stays mild. We have had the sniffles at our home, also! Enjoy your day and company! Your salad sounds wonderful. I am a vegetarian and it is right down my alley. Take care, Cindi

The broccoli slaw sounds delicious. Happy July 4th.
The slaw is good. I didn't make it today, though, just cabbage slaw, cause I wasn't sure who of those coming to my house would like. Hmm, I could have made both I suppose.

That broccoli salad is the same as mine but mine asks for dried cranberries instead of bacon. I add bacon anyway. :) That makes it American, eh? Anyhow, happy 4th!
The broccoli slaw sounds wonderful.
Happy 4th of July!
Skhye, I think cranberries would be a good addition. I'll have to try it next time I make the slaw.
I have a really good recipe for a slaw, but it makes it for 20 or so people, so only good for a pot luck. You put Ramen noodles in it. I'll find that recipe and post here later.
