Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Since I started this blog in 2008, I've done something special for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  This year has been busy for me personally, so the month snuck up on me, so no blog hopping this month.

But I didn't want the month to go completely away without blogging on something. First, go to The Breast Cancer Site and click for free mammograms.  It's easy and it's free (for you and those who need it).  They are trying to reach 6 million clicks in October and are a couple million short right now!

Second, the breast cancer I've focused on through the years is Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  It is a very aggressive, very deadly disease and one that's easily overlooked.  Check out this video on the disease and make yourself aware, it could save your life. http://youtu.be/3s9_UrVtc6c

For the past 2-3 years, I've participated in a Breast Cancer Awareness scavenger hunt.  Things were busy for those of us involved in this mega undertaking, so we're doing a scaled back version.  Join me, Skhye Moncrief and Sky Purington for a weekend Blog Jog to help bring about breast cancer awareness.  I'll be giving away a Think Pink gift packet to one lucky commenter, and Skhye and Sky will be doing the same, so be sure to visit their blogs and comment as well.  Each of us will draw names ONLY from those who have commented on our own blogs, so you if you want to be eligible for all the prizes, comment on each blog.

I discovered information on a little known, but deadly breast cancer, Inflammatory Breast Cancer, when I first started doing the scavenger hunt and I've kept up with spreading the word about it over the years.  Once again, IBC is the cancer I decided to highlight here.

I spoke about this before, back in October, but thought I'd remind everyone about this wonderful site. All you gotta do is check in daily, and click to give: foodfor the hungry, mammograms, health care to kids, books to kids, rainforest support, and food for animals. It takes about a minute to go through all the tabs and click for the six different causes.

The Breast Cancer Site needs your help

The Breast Cancer Site is a place to support free mammograms for poor women. By just clicking a button, you help raise money from its sponsors. There are 4 or 5 other causes you can support at the site as well, from child literacy to animals to feeding the hungry.....all by just clicking a box. They also have stores you can buy nifty stuff from to help raise money. It takes me less than 60 seconds to click through all the sites....but I admit, I don't do it everyday. I need to start doing that again on a regular basis.

Once you get to the site, you can click just one of the charities and ask that they send you a daily reminder, which I get, but as said, still don't think I have the time....however, come on.....it does only take about a minute to click all the tabs.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Inflammatory Breast Cancer may be rare, but when it does strike, it's very aggressive. This cancer had not had a lot of attention, thought that's changing now.

According to the National Cancer Institute, symptoms of IBC may include redness, swelling, and warmth in the breast, often without a distinct lump in the breast. The redness and warmth are caused by cancer cells blocking the lymph vessels in the skin. The skin of the breast may also appear pink, reddish purple, or bruised. The skin may also have ridges or appear pitted, like the skin of an orange (called peau d'orange), which is caused by a buildup of fluid and edema (swelling) in the breast.
