Saturday's Salacious Suggestions

I really like letting my fellow authors post their blurbs on Saturday...it keeps the blog busy and isn't a lot of work for me!  But I am doing a twist today, my friends.  With Thanksgiving just a few days away, let's post one of our favorite recipes for the holiday.  Please include a link to your website or own blog...we do want to promote ourselves.  But let's share some recipes this week.  Next week, we'll be back to posting our blurbs and info on books!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY to my USA friends.

Wednesday's Chow - Giblet Dressing

This is a family recipe, one I got from my mom....I'm not sure where she got it from, but it's the only dressing I ever fix for Thanksgiving.  Make it the night before and refrigerate it over night.  It is important that you don't stuff the turkey until just before you put it in the oven. Stuffing it too early makes for the right condition for nasty stuff to grow and we don't want visits to the E.R. on Thanksgiving!

Giblet Dressing

Ingredients:

Turkey giblets
1 ½ loaves of day old bread
1 stick butter
1 cup celery, chopped
1 cup onion, chopped
1 tsp sage
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 tsp poultry seasoning

Directions:

Simmer turkey giblets in water for one hour. Remove giblets to cool and reserve broth.

Meanwhile, tear bread into small pieces in a large bowl. Sauté celery and onion in butter until tender. Pour vegetables and butter over bread. Add seasonings. Chop giblets and add to bread mixture. Pour 1 cup reserved broth over bread mixture, adding a little bit at a time as need to moisten the bread. Season to taste. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Stuff turkey just prior to cooking.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Do not stuff the turkey with dressing until reading to put into the oven.

The Friday Record - Thanksgiving

Yes, it's a little early to be thinking about Thanksgiving, however, this day is very much connected to that autumn holiday. In 1789, President George Washington proclaimed the first national Thanksgiving Day to be observed on November 26th - in honor of the adoption of the United States Constitution. The Episcopal Church began to celebrate an annual Thanksgiving Day on the first Thursday of November. There was no annual national holiday until October 3, 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln designated the last Thursday of November as Thanksgiving. In 1939, 1940 and 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt changed the day to the next-to-last Thursday in November. This conflicted with half the states' proclamations for Thanksgiving. In 1941, Congress passed a joint resolution making the fourth Thursday in November.

Canadians also celebrate a National Thanksgiving Day - the first Monday in November.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving Day dish?
