Roni Adams Rides in

Hey ya'll!

Anna was nice enough to invite me over to play on her blog. My name is Roni Adams and I'm an author with The Wild Rose Press. While I have a book out in the Champagne Rose line called "Beauty and the Geek" its really my cowboy stories that I'm best known for.

"To Tame A Cowgirl" was released in the fall of 2008 and the folllow up "The Cowboy Comes Home" came out in January.

The third in the series, "Trouble in Texas" with the smoking hot heroine, Charli Boyd, is scheduled to release in early summer, 2009.

Every author has her passion and hopefully because its something that interests you, it makes the research and writing an act of love. Someone once said if you can make a living doing something you love that truly is the key to a happy life. While I can't tell you I'm making a living at writing cowboy stories, I certainly am enjoying the writing and research. In fact next week I"m leaving to visit Bandera, Texas - self proclaimed "Cowboy Capital of the World". I'm staying on the Silver Spurr Dude ranch and riding up into the hill country of Texas. To top that off I'll head into San Antonio for the annual Merritt conference with the lovely ladies of the San Antonio Romance Authors (SARA). Yep definitely having fun!

If you don't know much about The Wild Rose Press I would strongly encourage you to check out this publishing house. Its a small press and it releases their books in both print and electronic versions. They take short stories and full length novels. My cowboy books are in the Yellow Rose line and I'm in there with some pretty powerful company, authors like Stacy Dawn and Cindy Pape and Judith Rochelle to name a few. Wonderful authors who write great cowboy stories. The Wayback, Texas series has been the most popular in the company. If you haven't read any Wayback stories I strongly advise you pick up a few (www.thewildrosepress.com). I'm also coming out in an anthology in June called "Return to Wayback". In my story, "Under a Rodeo Moon", my hero is a blonde blue eyed bull rider and my heroine is a reformed spoiled socialite. Getting these two back together was quite the chore that's for sure.

Anyway, I'll be here all day if anyone wants to talk to me about my stories or The Wild Rose Press or cowboys and research. Thanks again to Anna for letting me lasso her blog and talk to all of you.

Take care!

Roni Adams

Being a Texan, I grew up with a fascination of cowboys and horses. So, cowboy stories are some of my all time favorite romances! However, I'm a definite geek myself so BEAUTY AND THE GEEK stirs my interest as well. So many choices!

I have to add my two cents on The Wild Rose Press as well...it's a great place for writers and offers some awesome new authors for readers to find!

Hi Roni,
The dude ranch in Bandera??? How fun! It looks like the weather will be perfect. Know you'll have a great time there and in San Antonio.
I agree with your assessment of The Wild Rose Press. It's a great place to be. I got copies of my May release last week and they are beautiful.

Beauty and the Geek has the best cover. Between that and the title and my interest is stirred too.

Yeehaw on that trip to Texas. I've lived in Comanche... Nothing gets more Texan than the blowing sand, scorpions, rattlesnakes, cactus, and cowboy boots there! See if you can find a bull neddle. Of course, that may be n-e-t-t-l-e. And don't rub against it. ;) That experience might lead to an intriguing and authentic scene in one of your next books. ;)

Have fun. You know I'll be at Walt Disney World while you're stomping around Texas eating BBQ. :( I wish I could be in San Antonio though! I am looking forward to having food served to me for 10 days!!!

I'm a transplanted Texan but horses were my greatest passion for years. Cowboys, well, who wouldn't be lassoed by a handsome man in tight jeans and boots. I haven't seen many real cowboys in Houston however.

Beauty and the Geek -- what a title! Immediately hooks the interest.

I have always loved horses. Add a good lookin' cowpoke to the mix and I am hooked. Yee Hah!

And I agree TWRP is a great place. Everyone supports everyone else and that is so rare. Finding people who actually care about you in a publishing house, amazing!!

Where do you begin your research? I've not had the opportunity to read your books as yet, but I'm definitely going to add them to my list.

Roni,

My WRP novel, All or Nothing, is a historical set in the American west - The research is what I love...I'm with you on that one!

Cowboys are always welcome around these parts! I'm an Arizona native, now settled in the desert of SoCal.

Great post!

Roni, Who did your covers? They're gorgeous! Fiction with cowboys will never die, whether historical or contemporary. It's truly America's story.
I hope you have a splendid time at the dude ranch.

I've had fun researching for my WIP, a Western historical. Trouble is, the research keeps me from writing. I knew nothing about the West but what I'd seen in movie. I've driven through Texas and visited Tyler for a conference, but I remember mostly traffic jams and crazy drivers.
My research makes me want to drive there again. Do you have any suggestions to avoid traffic and see the "real West?"

Hey Roni,
Looking forward to seeing you again next week. Once again, you're just going to miss seeing the bluebonnets. One of these years you need to put enough time in one of your Texas trips for me to take you to the King Ranch.

Hey all, I hope Anna doesn't mind me coming by several days later. I have to apologize for not being on line more that day. I had a major computer blow up, which is a really pathetic excuse but it seems like when your computer goes wonky your world stops turning, everything is frozen in time. It is not fun!

Anyway, thank you to Anna for letting me play on her blog and thanks for the great comments.

I"ll answer a couple of you who asked. First my covers. Beauty and the Geek was done by our wonderful RJ Morris. She does do covers still every once in a blue moon and as a good friend of mine she did that one for me. I have to be honest and say its hands down my favorite. It depicts the story so perfect and so simply.

The Double B Series are all done by the amazing Nicke Martinez. I still don't know how she can take a blurb from a story and match the cover so perfect! She's amazing.

LuAnn asked me about my reserach. This post is getting long so I'll do a second one on that.

Thanks for stopping by everyone and again sorry to have dropped the ball!

LuAnn,

You asked how I do my research. It depends on what I'm researching but for my Double B series, I started with the general layout of the land so to speak. I set my stories in a fictional town but near a big city. So they are near Houston. I studied the weather for the area and to be honest I also contacted an RWA chapter near there and asked if anyone could answer some questions for me about the area. The ladies were more than helpful. This was all online of course.

In this day and age there is no need to hop a plane and visit the area you are writing about. Keep certain things vague and you'll be fine.

For cowboys I've read up on web sites, I've studied them (yes its a tough job but someone has to do it) on TV or on the internet and I finally visited a dude ranch to watch some in action. You don't have to know a lot just the surface stuff so you don't look like an idiot.

Anyway, research these days with the internet is much easier than in days gone by. Usually once you start googling you can get into some web sites that will really give you exactly waht you want. I've found that by sending emails to folks and explaining about my book they are more than eager to help too.

Thanks!

Roni
