Inquiring Minds Want to Know

So, I had a whole list of "inquiring minds" questions and now I can't find the file. I am sure I saved it, but I can't even find on my mozy.com backup. This really irritates me!  I don't recall all the questions...just goes to show I should have set up some blogs and scheduled them for release.  It's just really odd, because I had it open for over a week and I know I saved it. I highlighted the two questions I had already asked, so I would know not to use them again.....

Anyway, enough of complaining about computers, although, sometimes I really hate them!  On to this week's question (especially since I skipped last week.....just plain lazy, that's all I can say).

If you could travel back in time, what era would you want to visit?  Would you want to be just an observer (like at the zoo) or would you want to be a participant?

Inquiring minds want to know your answer, so please leave a comment.

Anytime between 1400- 1850 Scotland period and definitely a participant. I could track down my ancestors and find out if my 3x great grandparents were actually married.

As much as I love history, I'm not sure I'd want to live it. So many hardships...
But, I might like to visit and participate during the Roman Empire.
Or relive the 80's. Does that count? HAHA!

Thanks for stopping by, Froach (Jody?). LOL, interesting reason to go back into time. Maybe we don't always want to know the truth about our ancestors.

Jenn, I almost agree with you. Things were definitely different and harder in the past...making your own bread, daily, hand washing cloths, slaughtering your own meat...

I want to go back to the Regency period and I want to participate, but only if I could go back as a wealthy lady.

Hi, Anna!

As long as I could visit and come back, I'd love to witness the American Civil War and participate as a battlefield nurse as my time traveling heroine in Erin's Rebel did.

The regency period before 1816 amd wealthy enough so I could meet Lord Byron and Jane Austen. There are so many questions I would like to ask them and then would need time to speak to Lady Jersey.

Wow! I want to visit the American revolution and see it for myself. And check out my ancestors in Scotland before they arrived in the US in the 1700's. I thought I was fine with watching invisibly, but it would tear my heart out if I knew I could have helped and I wasn't there.

A wonderful question and writing promt!

Any time from old world Ancient History to the 1900's. I am a easy going time traveler. :-)

I am always disappointed when we go to London to find there is no Sherlock Holmes, no fog, no Oscar Wilde, no Jack the Ripper. Sigh, those were the good old days.

And I wouldn't mind living upstairs at Downton Abby.

Great post for discussion.

I would go back to save my heroes in history(too numerous to mention here).

Definitely the 1800's in the west. I would love to live the times that I write about.

Many years ago, I visited the Yorktown Victory Center (Battle of Yorktown where the British surrendered in the American Revolution) in Virginia.

On of the exhibit was a recreation of colonial farm with a log cabin, barn, tobacco field.

I went in to that log cabin and could easily imagine living there with my husband (who actually grew up on a farm) and my (then) two teenage sons.

If we'd actually lived there/then I imagined the boys would grow up, marry and live close.

Wouldn't mind a visit to the past, but I'm too used to all the modern conveniences.

Impossible to pick a time period or continent! But I'd like to observe, move around just by thought, and be able to touch things. Good question, Anna.

I'd go back to France during the Revolution, but as an observer. No way would I want to "participate"!

Oh goodness, do I have to pick just one time era? How about if I narrow it down to three?

I would have loved to have lived in the Old South on a huge plantation just prior to the Civil War. So many beautiful homes were destroyed during the war, it would be nice to see a few of them "before" they were gone. Most men were gentlemen back then, and treated thier ladies with tender care, but respected them all the same.

Living in the Old West would have been fun. All that open prarie, room to stretch your legs and breath in the country air. I'm not sure about cowboys, I might have went with a hot Merican Indian.

Lastly, I would loved to have been old enough to atend Woodstock, and actually remember it. Getting to see all those classic rock stars on stage, and participate in such a poiniant legendary event. Too cool. Okay, so there's a little bit of hippie in me. :)

Okay, I meant to say American Indian, and not Merican Indian, sorry for the typo.

Hi everyone! What great responses. So nice to see where everyone would go.

I didn't answer, I want to go to the Old West/Wagon Train. I know that would be a hard time, but I'd like to experience.

Either the mid to late 1800's in the west (preferably north) or anytime between 1600-1880 Scotland. I'd definitely want to "live" it and experience everything I could.

I actually have several I would like to visit. Anytime from 1850 to before the start of WWI in both London and US. Also the old west, and medieval Scotland. I would love to 'live' the experience.

I too have several I'd like to visit. One would be northern Minnesota, the area of Grand Portage during the early 1800s. This is because I have a timetravel novel set there and it sure would be a lot easier to research. With my luck, I'd get stuck there.

The other time would be about 900 when the Viking pirates invaded Europe and Scotland, etc. There supposedly was a lady pirate by the name of Alfhild, not proven because the Vikings didn't have a written language then. They thought it was evil. Anyway, my mother's name was Alfhild, and that's a rare name, even in Norway.

In both cases I would want to observe. I wouldn't have the nerve to be a participator.

There are two times/places I'd like to view as an observer. One, of course, is the Old West in the 1880's. The other is the Victorian era in the English countryside at a large manorhouse/castle. Don't want to participate, because I'd probably be a scrub maid. ☺
