A few weeks ago we went to see Gangster Squad. The movie was excellent, with a great cast. Sean Penn is probably the scariest bad guy I've seen in some time. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's characters were complicated and intriguing. Josh Brolin anchored the movie nicely. It was good enough that I'd go and see it again at the theater.

Hi, Reese. Thanks for stopping by. I have actually seen two movies in the past month, which is unusual. The first was THE IMPOSSIBLE and I highly recommend it. It's a great survival story. The second was WRECK IT RALPH, which was surprisingly very good and I also recommend it as a family movie. I took my three grandchildren, ages 5 and 8. All three of them sat still and watched it. The story is about friendship and wanting to belong. Great fun.

I recommend Lincoln, as a recent movie. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but my goodness, what great acting. And we saw the rough and dirty side of Lincoln--in politics. When he was determined and knew what was right, he fought down and dirty--just like politicians do.
Les Miserables--yes, it was very good--would I even go see it again? NO.
I don't see many movies, and nothiing very scary or dark.
Right now I'm waiting for the one with Sandra Bullock as an FBI agent paired with the large commedianne who is is a movie right now. She was in Bridesmaids.
I saw the previews of this new one coming, and laughed all during the preview.

SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS
I cringed, I gasped, I laughed so, so hard. BUT this movie is not for the squeamish or the easily offended. The leave no stone unturned.

Like alternative history?
Try ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE SLAYER
Surprisingly entertaining.

You know how much I love Singin' in the Rain -- the old classic MGM musical starring Gene Kelly. It just makes me happy. But I recently saw Limitless with Bradley Cooper. What an imaginative movie. I loved it!

Well, it's been a while since I've been to a movie, but the last movie hubby and I went to go see - and LOVED - was "This Means War". I think it's rated R, but we laughed soooooo hard! So I bought it the other day and we watched it again - and laughed just as hard. Loved it!!

There are sooooo many favorites it's hard to narrow down to one. I think lately, though, it would be LEAP YEAR with Amy Adams. I also love Kevin Kleine and my faves are DAVE and FRENCH KISS. He is different in each movie. You can tell I don't like scary or dark movies. We'll probably see the new DIE HARD movie when it comes to Netflix. I am not seeing LES MISERABLES because I read the book and saw the stage version. It is just too sad, plus they leave out so much of the book. I do love the sound track, though. I love Sandra Bullock, and we watch TWO WEEK'S NOTICE and MISS CONGENIALITY over. I don't like Benjamin Bratt, so I prefer TWO WEEK'S NOTICE. So reminds me of our youngest daughter. Wish she'd find a rich tycoon (or any other nice guy) to marry.

My all-time favorite movie is 'Ever After'. It's a retelling of the Cinderella story with a kickass heroine. Second up is 'The Princess Bride'. There's just too much awesome in that movie.

I forgot to mention Meryl Streep, who is my favorite actress. I hated her new one with Tommy Lee Jones, but loved all her other movies that I've seen. I even liked MAMA MIA in spite of its silly plot and so-so singing. What can you expect from a movie made to showcase Abba?

Such great movies to see. Tamrei, I love EVER AFTER, too. It is a nice twist on Cinderella. Caroline, THE PROPOSAL is a good Sandra Bullock movie, too.

I would recommend seeing Colin Firth's version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. It is 6 hours long, but it is really good! And THE KING SPEECH is also a great movie if you haven't seen it. And I love DIRTY DANCING!

Celia, my husband and I went to see LINCOLN and loved it. I learned some things I didn't know before, but I was disheartened to learn that the writers lied about how some of the Reps voted. I mean, it was a close vote, we know that...so please just show the votes as they happened, it's still a close vote. Instead, they dishonored the men who voted FOR the amendment by saying they voted AGAINST it. But I do agree with you, it is a must see movie! Very intriguing politics in play.

On Sunday I saw 'Quartet'. It's a star-crossed lovers story set in a nursing home. I went because Maggie Smith is in it and my husband went skiing. He doesn't like 'that kind' of movie: ie about feelings.
Maggie Smith is a retired opera diva. She knows some of the residents but is shocked a former lover and husband is also there.
The story is touching and funny. The music is wonderful. And of course, the characterizations are well written and acted.
A hearty recommendation from me.

If I add a movie DVD to my collection then it's a 'must see' movie as far as I'm concerned. Australia, the musicals Annie and Mama Mia, Avatar, Gladiator, Random Harvest (an old B/W movie), Much Ado about Nothing and Nanny McPhee with Emma Thompson and the version of Jane Eyre with Samantha Morton. Think that's enough?? LOL

I suggest Michael Clayton for the superb writing and acting and The Last Samurai in order to spend several hours with actors who above all are honoring their heritage as they depict a movie about honor. Staggeringly moving.
