Texas sues Romance Novelist

The Texas Department of Transportation, who has trademarked the slogan "Don't Mess With Texas" thinks you're too stupid to know the difference between an offical department release and a funny, sexy, hot romance novel by the same title.  So, they are suing the author, publisher and Barnes and Noble.  Yes, your tax dollars at work!
So, support free speech and go go buy Christi Craig's book!

Click HERE to read the article.  And BUY it HERE from Barnes and Noble.

UPDATE: An Austin, TX judge has thrown out the case filed by TX DOT against Houston Author Christi Craig. Click HERE for the whole story.

I so agree, ladies. This is just plain crazy. I stopped by my Barnes and Noble and bought 2 of 3 copies the had. I'd have bought all 3 copies, but I was telling the story to another later and offerec the last copy to her and she took it!

Great!! I'm glad you're getting the word out about this! I'm sure the Texas DOT didn't invent that phrase. I wonder who the first person who said it was?

There's actually a book about the phrase Don't Mess With Texas. I haven't read it, but here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Mess-Texas-Behind-Legend/dp/0972282513/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1314225205&sr=8-3

Guess this author's going to get a boost from this lawsuit. :-)

I saw that book, because I wanted to see if there was another book out there by the same title. I thinkg that was the only other one. The thing that makes this lawsuit so really stupid is their stance that because it's a romance with sex, it makes Texas look bad. Nah, we have politicians doing that well enough on their own...

If the book had been on say, historical Texas citizans, would the DOT still have sued?

I have been following this because I love Christie's book. Such a stupid waste of money! I don't really like using the word stupid but in this case that is all you can say.

Virginia, I know Christi, as she's a member of Northwest Houston RWA with me. She's a hoot and a half. If you ever get a chance to meet her (she goes to RWA conferences) you'll love her. She's as funny as her books. Do you follow her blog posts? I have to find the link if you don't. But her posts are very funny.
